MONTHLY STATEMENTS

“My priceless mentor, Mr Edmond Kizito, has told me countless times that, ‘It is possible to have overnight success. But you have to prepare earnestly for that night.’ I have realized a lot of criticism targeted at the possibility of VISION 2040. Last month, while being interviewed, I passionately spoke about the effectiveness of Vision 2040 and its potential to transform our future. What is often ignored is the workability of these projections! When you read many of the World Bank reports on Africa, you realize it’s actually underestimated and Uganda can truly achieve first world status by 2035, which will revolutionize our society. Twenty two years is a very long time in which we can make substantial strides. If we only concentrated our efforts focused and strategically on these four pivotal sectors;
Agriculture
Education
Infrastructure
Tourism
With energy, resources, and national influence increasingly shifted to the above four sectors, we can realistically become a second world country by late 2019 and rise to first world status around mid 2035, benefiting every citizen of our nation. This shift is not just a dream but a potential reality that we must strive towards.
Timothy Ferris wrote in his insightful book, The Four Hour Work Week (considered by many one of the best books of its kind), ‘The fishing is best where the fewest go, and the collective insecurity of the world makes it easy for people to hit home runs while everyone else is aiming for base hits. There is just less competition for bigger goals. If you are insecure, guess what? The rest of the world is, too. Do not overestimate the competition and underestimate yourself. You are better than you think.’ This advice is crucial; we must learn to recognize our own strengths and potential.
In the great book As a Man Thinketh by James Allen, he wrote, ‘The vision that you glorify in your mind, the ideal that you enthrone in your heart, this you will build your life by, and this you will become.’ Our thoughts shape our reality, and we should therefore be deliberate about nurturing positive visions. Like Robin Sharma once said, ‘Produce like Picasso. Lead like Mandela. Live like Branson.’ These are not just words; they invite us to aspire to greatness in our own unique ways.
I will never forget the powerful words Akosua Dardaine Edwards told me at a previous meeting at Serena Hotel. She said, ‘I don’t watch fights, I fight.’ This profound statement resonates with me deeply, urging me to take action rather than remain a spectator in my own life. Therefore, I conclude this month’s statement series by passionately saying: DON’T WATCH the fight, BE the fight. Let us each take responsibility for our journey and work tirelessly towards realizing our dreams and ambitions, inspiring others along the way.
