When riding in a car on a bright sunny day with the windows down, I passed a large and colorful sign that warned: $100 FINE FOR THROWING LITTER ON THE HIGHWAY. It was a stark reminder of the importance of keeping our environment clean. Soon after that, I saw another sign that stated LITTER BARREL - 1 MILE! A short time later, I passed a large garbage truck making its way to the disposal plant, collecting waste that residents had disposed of improperly.
There are three primary things you can choose to do with garbage: You can collect it, scatter it, OR dispose of it responsibly. Each choice reflects our attitude towards both waste and the environment.
Some people take on the role of garbage collectors not just of physical waste, but also around town; they are always listening for some juicy piece of gossip. If they were only collectors of tangible trash, it would not be so serious. But these collectors, who habitually spread rumors, are often the real litter bugs, scattering toxicity all along life’s highway. Thank goodness there are many who recognize the importance of responsibly disposing of information, just as we do with physical refuse. These individuals know precisely where to put the refuse of negativity - in the "litter barrel" of forgetfulness.
The message is clear: [Do your part to silence gossip] - Do not repeat it. Remember, “Together United Of course!”
